The SCIBE London team have been invited to run the student workshop for the 2012 RIBA Research Symposium. This annual event is this year focussing on housing retrofit, and for the first time is including a student charette, the results of which will be presented to the symposium on 4th October 2012. Aware of our scarcity research, the RIBA Research Group invited Deljana Iossifova and Jeremy Till to organise and run this student event. We will be taking students to a seminal 1960s housing project in Bromley-by-Bow which is scheduled for demolition to make way for a ‘signature’ housing block. The workshop will ask questions about the need for this kind of improvement, and what alternative creative approaches could be deployed under conditions of scarcity. Any students interested in taking part in the charette, which will be on 25th September, should contact the SCIBE London team on scarcityandcreativity at gmail.com, and we will pass names on to the RIBA.
